Ekovir provides waste collection services to several municipalities. On Wednesday, the company received a fine of 650,000 euros for waste fraud. In addition, Ekovir must pay over 2 million euros in environmental fees.
Ekovir's lawyer says that regular customers should not fear price increases. "Ekovir has confirmed that prices will not rise due to the fine," said the lawyer.
The prosecutor's office estimated that the court decision will not create payment difficulties for Ekovir. "The state has an interest in Ekovir resolving its problems," said the prosecutor.
Nikolai Ossipenko, who led Ekovir's fraud attempt, died last year. Ekovir hopes to receive money from Ossipenko's bankruptcy assets. "Ekovir has filed claims against Ossipenko's assets," said the lawyer.
The bankruptcy trustee said that the assets are insufficient to cover Ekovir's claims. "There is little in the assets compared to the claims," he said. In addition to the fine, Ekovir still has more than 2 million euros in tax debt.
