The mayor of Narva, Katri Raik, had to give her electoral alliance a new name for the October elections.
The early elections were won by the electoral alliance “Katri Raik’s List”. But now they are not using the same name. This is because a former co-founder is no longer part of the list.
The law states that the name of an electoral alliance can be reused if more than half of the former alliance is also in the new alliance. Kirgi Raik’s electoral alliance’s other co-founder was Sergei Gorlach.
Gorlach was later sent to prison. He was found guilty of influencing voters. Katri Raik said that their alliance can no longer cooperate with Gorlach.
Since Gorlach did not grant permission to use the old name, Katri Raik registered her electoral alliance with a new name. The new name is “Katri’s List”.
The law does not allow an electoral alliance to use the name of a political party or another alliance. Raik said that the new name is similar but correct.
In the early elections, Raik’s electoral alliance received 43.9% of the votes in Narva. This gave them 15 seats in the Narva City Council.
