The pillars of Jõhvi viaduct received new lighting. The idea came through participatory budgeting, but the project cost more than planned. The municipality only had 48,000 euros, so only one side was illuminated.
Jõhvi deputy mayor Ilmar Aun said they wanted to illuminate the other side as well, but there wasn't enough money. Now only the eastern side is illuminated.
The viaduct belongs to the state, so installing the new lighting took time. The old lighting fixtures were broken, so we had to build new ones. This required coordination with the Transport Administration.
The lighting had to be safe. The light must not reach the roadway and must not be too bright. The lighting must be uniform.
The Jõhvi viaduct was completed in 2013.
