Tallinn has unveiled new proposals for changing bus routes. These changes are in the third stage. Now these plans will be discussed with local residents.
The changes in the third stage affect existing routes. No new bus routes will be created, but some routes will be merged. For example, routes 1 and 14 will be merged into one route. This means that route 1 will run between Vana-Pääsküla and Viimsi, while route 14 will be discontinued.
In the Haabersti district, routes 21 and 21B will be merged. The new route 21 will run from the Landi stop to Viru Keskus. Routes 41 and 41B will also be merged. Route 41 will run from Kakumäe tip to Balti jaam.
Route 21A will receive a new number, 22, and will run from Väike-Õismäe to the Open Air Museum road. Route 37 will run between Kakumäe harbor and Mustamäe.
Route 20 will change its destination. It will run from Kadaka puiestee to Rehe tee and the city center. Route 20A will receive a new number, 19, and will run from Laagri to Lepistiku stop.
Routes 23 and 24 will undergo minor changes. Route 24 will no longer go to Mäepealse. Route 72 will have new stops added in Mustamäe. Route 28 will run along Kadaka tee.
Lasnamäe routes 65 and 48 will be merged. Route 65 will run on Randvere tee. Route 13 will run on Suur-Sõjamäe street.
The head of city transport, Kaido Padar, said that the changes will help buses move faster. Deputy Mayor Joel Jesse added that tram traffic will resume in July.
Former Deputy Mayor Vladimir Svet is concerned that the changes will not improve the connectivity of nearby municipalities with Tallinn. Discussions in the districts will begin next week. Final changes will be announced in May. The route changes will take effect in August.
