Paul Alekand, the director of the Tallinn Industrial Education Center, said that car repair and engineering specialties are popular. There are also many applications for mechatronics and construction specialties.
There is great interest in vocational training in Tartu. The number of applications is record-breaking. Director Raini Jõks noted that there is a high demand for hairdresser and cosmetologist specialties.
Anneli Entson, the director of the Pärnu County Vocational Education Center, said that motor vehicle technology is the most popular specialty. Construction finishing, electrical work, and bakery and confectionery are also popular.
In Ida-Viru County, there is interest in IT and multimedia, but there are fewer applicants for vocational training. Director Mati Lukas said that Russian-language school specialties are becoming fee-based. There is less interest in them.
From this autumn, 12 new curricula will open. In Tartu, there is a new beauty and wellness services specialty. In Pärnu County, tourism and catering-related specialties are popular. In Ida-Viru County, there are new curricula in industry and IT.
In Tallinn, there are new curricula for IT support specialists, software developers, and digital technicians. Applications usually last until the end of July or mid-August.
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2024, the most students were in the fields of technology, production, and construction. There were a total of 27,604 students in vocational training.
