Eesti 200 vice-chairman Aleksei Jašin wants the party to hold leadership elections earlier. Currently, they are planned for August. He believes it would be a good idea.
Jašin says he has proposed this idea to party members. However, there is currently no support for it. Party members believe it is important to stick together and present themselves as a united team.
Jašin added that Eesti 200 has already agreed to refine its program. They advocate social liberalism and progressivism. They also focus on economic issues and security.
When asked whether Kristina Kallas is leading the party well, Jašin responded that in his opinion, two things are important. First, Kallas received many votes in the elections, which shows her popularity. Second, the party’s program was previously too broad and not specific enough.
Jašin believes that Eesti 200 should focus more on economic issues. Currently, these are important issues in Estonia, while value-based issues have taken a back seat.
As for whether he himself would like to become the party leader, Jašin does not yet know. He says he will first focus on improving the program.
Current leader Kristina Kallas says the party has not yet discussed bringing the leadership elections forward. However, she believes it would be possible. Currently, the elections are planned for August.
Kallas added that the party must address both value-based and economic issues. She believes that value-based issues will return to Estonian politics later.
In local elections, Jašin received 291 votes in Tallinn and Kallas received 944 votes in Tartu.
