The Riigikogu did not support the no-confidence motion against Minister Hendrik Johannes Terras. 35 MPs voted in favor of the no-confidence motion. There were no votes against. 53 MPs did not participate in the vote. At least 51 votes would have been needed for the no-confidence motion to pass.
The no-confidence motion was initiated by opposition MPs. They said it also concerns the government's policy. The reason was the plan to charge children and pensioners for bus tickets.
The MPs said this plan harms poor people. Minister Terras is supposed to help develop Estonia's regions. This plan damages that.
The MPs also said the state does not have enough food reserves. The state should have food for everyone for 14 days. Currently, there is only enough food for 10% of the population for 30 days.
Minister Terras said he did not come up with these problems. They have been known for a long time. He said his job is to fix the system, not to make simple statements.
He said bus tickets are not the goal. The goal is to keep bus lines operating and open new lines where they are needed. He is responsible for this.
The debate on the no-confidence motion was postponed because the session ended before the debate concluded.
