Ministry Plans to Increase Postal Service Prices by One-Fifth
The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture has sent a draft regulation on the increase in postal service prices for coordination. This means that service prices will increase by one-fifth. This change will help Eesti Post improve its financial situation and continue sending letters.
Eelnõu kohaselt tõuseks
universaalse postiteenuse hind
See võimaldab
säilitada vajaliku teenuse osutamise nõutud mahu ja kvaliteediga
Eesti Post can adjust the prices for sending letters and packages with the new draft. The last price change was in April 2023. Recently, there has been a general price increase and the costs of postal services have risen. Reduced postal volumes have further increased the costs.
According to the draft, the price of the universal postal service would increase by an average of one-fifth. For example, sending a standard letter would cost 1.5 euros (previously 1.3 euros). Sending an express letter would cost 2.6 euros (previously 2.3 euros). The sending of international letters and packages would increase by an average of 14 and 23 percent. Most Estonians send less than one letter per year, so the price increase is not a threat to letter sending.
If the regulation is adopted, it will enter into force on the third day after its publication in the Riigi Teataja (State Gazette). After that, Eesti Post will inform consumers about the new prices and schedule.
Regional Affairs and Agriculture Minister Hendrik Johannes Terras said that a quick solution is necessary to continue providing high-quality postal services. "The planned price increase will help reduce the loss. It will allow maintaining the required volume and quality of the necessary service. In every corner of Estonia, it must be possible to receive and send letters and packages," he added.
