Tallinn University is looking for a new rector. The rector elections will take place in February 2026. Candidates for rector can be submitted until January 5th. The election committee will select the rector on February 11th. The elected rector will assume office on May 15th.
The rector's term is five years. A person who is or has been a professor can become rector. Candidates for rector can be submitted by the university's institutions, councils, and senate. The current rector can also submit a candidate.
Taavi Laur, Chairman of the Tallinn University Council, said: "University rectors lead the future. The rector of Tallinn University helps create a wisdom-based future. Each candidate must think about what kind of future they want and what they are willing to strive for."
The elected rector's term begins on May 15th, 2026, and ends on May 14th, 2031. Currently, Tõnu Viik is the rector of Tallinn University. He took office in 2021.
