Jüri Käosaar was elected as the director of Gustav Adolf Gymnasium (GAG). He will start his new position on January 12, 2026. Käosaar is a former student of GAG. He studied there for six years. Käosaar said that this school and its teachers had a significant impact on him. This is one of the reasons why he ran for the director position.
Another reason is that Käosaar has long worked in the field of education. He has thought about the challenges of school management. When the competition for the GAG director position was announced, he could not stay aside. Käosaar previously worked as the deputy mayor of Harku municipality. He was responsible for education, culture, social affairs, and healthcare. He held this position until recent weeks. Käosaar does not belong to any political party.
Previously, Käosaar was a member of the SDE and Eesti 200 parties. He holds a master's degree in history from the University of Tartu. He has worked as an educational leader at Tabasalu Gymnasium and helped establish Kindluse School in Rae municipality.
The previous GAG director, Henrik Salum, announced on June 5 that he would leave his position. His last working day was July 31. After that, the Tallinn Education Department announced a competition to find a new director. In the first round, no suitable candidate was found. The city government organized a new competition. On November 4, the competition committee interviewed three candidates. The candidates presented a brief introduction of themselves and shared their vision. Then they answered questions from the committee. The committee decided to elect Jüri Käosaar as the GAG director.
