The ship is expected to be fixed by Wednesday. But I’m not entirely certain about that, said Ruhnu mayor Raimet Figol.
The ship has been out of service for a week. At the beginning of August, the ship also had a technical failure. It was fixed within a day.
For Ruhnu Island, it’s common for the ship to be out of service for several days. Ten days is the average. Sometimes the failure lasts longer, said Figol.
Currently, the route is being served by the ship Nargö. It can accommodate 48 people. Runö can carry 60 passengers. The replacement ship usually operates on the Naissaare route. Prices on the Ruhnu route remain the same. There are other ships available for replacement on Naissaare.
The RuhnuRahu festival is expected to take place from August 22nd to 24th. It is an annual major event on the island. The event is expected to proceed under normal conditions, added Raimet Figol.
The mayor also said that the problem with the Ruhnu ferry has been ongoing for years. The state should invest in repairing the ship. The ship needs to be made compliant with requirements. Proper equipment is also needed to prevent future failures.
The Ruhnu mayor has mentioned that the technical failures of the ship are due to its initial projection. The age of the ship is also a cause. The ship has been in service for 14 years. At that time, it was a lower-class ship built by the state.
Previously, the fast catamaran Runö has been out of service almost every summer for the past five years.
