Ivan Egorov said on ERR's broadcast that he is leaving the Respekt faction. He was the deputy chairman of this faction.
Currently, there is the necessary majority in Narva to form a new coalition. Plan B and the Center Party will together have 16 council members.
Egorov said: "Last week I made a statement and shook hands. Today I announce that I support Plan B. Today we are here in Narva during the transition and change of power."
The leader of Plan B – Narva City Pulse, Urbo Vaarmann, said that the communication with Egorov lasted three months. "We did not try to lure him away. Ivan had questions and we answered them. We came to change Narva," Vaarmann said.
With Egorov's departure, the current coalition will have 15 council members. This will lose the majority in the 31-seat city council.
Vaarmann said that a new coalition will come to Narva. It is only a matter of time. "We will continue the transition process. Completing it will take time. We will talk with the Center Party as well as others. We are waiting for everyone who is ready to change Narva," he said.
Vaarmann added that he sees Jaan Tootsi as the best candidate for the position of mayor. He said that there will be three to five deputy mayors. The number of departments will be reduced.
In September of last year, candidates from Katri Raik's list signed a political declaration. They promised not to switch to the opposition after the elections. Egorov also signed it.
Last Thursday, Egorov said that he intends to join Plan B – Narva City Pulse. A day later, however, he said that this was not true. He said it was a communication error.
