The Ministry of Education wants to know how many students will graduate from basic school and how many gymnasium places are needed.
The last major study was conducted 12 years ago. Now the situation has changed. For example, fewer children are being born and many people live in cities, especially in Harjumaa.
The new study will help understand where more school places are needed and where fewer may be required. This will cost approximately 60,000 euros.
The study will examine three different options. This will help find the best solution for gymnasiums.
At the same time, the needs of vocational schools are also being studied. All this data will help the government make better decisions.
The study does not mean that schools will be reorganized immediately. It simply provides the knowledge needed for future decision-making.
Some graduates of basic school do not know where to go next. They are waiting for a response from a vocational school or are retaking tests.
The results of the study will be ready within nine months. The state plans to take full responsibility for school places by 2035.
