Mullu hukkus tulekahjudes vähem inimesi
Fewer people died in fires last year
Eelmisel aastal hukkus tulekahjudes vähem inimesi kui kunagi varem. Päästeameti andmetel oli hukkunute arv väike, sest oli soojem ilm ja kasutati rohkem suitsuandureid.
Last year, fewer people died in fires than ever before. According to the Rescue Board, the number of fatalities was low due to warmer weather and increased use of smoke detectors.
Last year, 34 people died in fires. This is the smallest number over the years. Tuuli Taavet, an expert from the Rescue Board, said that in 2023 there were 35 fatalities and in 2022 there were 48.
The reason may be preventive work and the use of smoke detectors. Previously, there were not as many smoke detectors. For example, a year ago, 25% of people did not have a smoke detector at home. Now it is 22%.
Last year, there were fewer fires than before. For example, a couple of years ago there were 480 fires, but last year there were 420. This shows that the number of fires is decreasing year by year.
Last winter, there were fewer fires because the weather was warmer. In warm weather, there is less need to heat. There were 37 fires caused by heating systems, but in the 2023-2024 winter, there were 61.
