The Tallinn City Government elected Aivar Toompere as the head of mupo on Tuesday. Toompere will start work on Wednesday.
Toompere led mupo from 2016 to 2024. Then he left the position. Previously, he has worked in the police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He has also studied at the University of Tartu.
Tiit Terik, who is responsible for public order, said that Toompere has a lot of experience. He knows well how to further develop mupo. Terik said that mupo's work affects the lives of city residents.
Toompere was selected in a competition with 29 candidates. He said he wants to use his experience for the benefit of the city. He wants mupo to be professional and trustworthy.
Toompere said he needed rest when he left in 2024. He rested and improved his health. Now he feels well and is ready to start working again.
Toompere also spoke about important topics for mupo. He mentioned wrong parking and civil protection. He said that parking rule violators endanger others. It is also important to protect city residents.
Toompere said that mupo must be for the people. Officials must help and sometimes also punish.
The previous head of mupo, Elari Kasemets, left the position in March. He did not say why he was leaving. He said it was a difficult decision.
