The inspection report of the Ministry of Education and Research notes several deficiencies at Lüllemäe Basic School. The school has 86 students. Mart Kase, the mayor of Valga, stated that the deficiencies will be addressed.
The inspection report mentions that the number of lessons in art and crafts has been reduced in the school's curriculum. The number of lessons in natural science has also been reduced. This was done without the consent of the school's board.
There are significant differences in subjects between the first and second semesters. The curriculum conflicts with legal regulations in several aspects. Many school management documents are missing.
The school employs 25 teachers, but 11 of them do not meet qualification requirements. The school lacks services of a special education teacher, speech therapist, and school psychologist. 46 percent of lessons are taught by teachers whose qualifications do not meet requirements.
Over the past three years, some students have scored below 50 percent in the mathematics exam. No one has scored below 50 percent in the Estonian language exam. At the same time, there have been one or two students each year who scored over 90 percent in the mathematics exam.
Upon coming to power in October, the new coalition in Valga municipality promised to improve the education sector. Mayor Mart Kase recommends that from grade 5 onwards, there should be leveled groups in mathematics and Estonian.
The Ministry of Education and Research has criticized the grouping of students based on average grades.
