Tartu Waterworks has identified two locations where the source of water pollution may be. One of them is near the Soinaste kindergarten and the other at the beginning of the Tähe industrial park. Waterworks continues chlorinating the water and the Health Board is conducting investigations.
Andreas Jääger’s family, living in Ülenurme, is buying bottled water because the Health Board recommends not drinking unboiled water. The family had stomach problems that could have come from contaminated water. A small child may have contracted an illness from bathing.
The latest water tests showed that the water is clean, but this may be due to chlorine. Waterworks continues to investigate what could have worsened the water quality. Blue paper was found near the Soinaste kindergarten, which may cause water pollution. In the Tähe industrial park, a pipe was installed without permission, which could also be the cause.
Some residents believe that the municipality did not do enough informing. Notifications were only shared on Facebook, which did not reach everyone. The mayor of Kambja municipality said that they are coordinating activities with Waterworks and the Health Board. The Health Board currently does not recommend sharing water via cisterns, as it may pose other risks.
Waterworks will stop chlorination when the Health Board gives the order. The Health Board took new water samples on Thursday and continues its investigations.
