Lauri Läänemets said that the Social Democrats will not join the Reform Party's government. He said that the Reform Party has not governed the country well.
Läänemets added that Prime Minister Kristen Michal has tried to say that life is better without the Social Democrats. He also said that if an opportunity arises to express no confidence in Michal, the Social Democrats will do so.
He emphasized that the Social Democrats make decisions based on their worldview, not on cooperation with the opposition or the coalition. He said that some people are trying to force the Social Democrats to work in the coalition, but that is not the case.
Läänemets said he has heard rumors that the Reform Party is inviting the Social Democrats back into the government. He said these rumors stem from Michal wanting to show that the Reform Party is a liberal party. He added that the government is weak and Michal needs to find ways to maintain trust.
Läänemets also said that even if he were offered the position of Riigikogu speaker, the Social Democrats would not join the government. He said the main focus is on substantive issues, not positions.
He said that the Social Democrats have done their work and do not need the position of Riigikogu speaker. He stressed that the main problems are tax money distribution to the wealthy and energy policy.
Läänemets added that the Reform Party currently lacks the ability to lead the country, and taking on that responsibility is difficult. He said the current government is on pause.
He also criticized Michal's foreign policy. He said the government should have a foreign policy spokesperson with authority. He also mentioned that Estonia has abandoned active foreign policy.
Läänemets did not approve of the government's reaction to the president's words. He said such things are not good. However, he praised the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and said it continues to be good.
