Terras: Plans Against Foot-and-Mouth Disease Are Ready
Regionaal- ja põllumajandusminister Hendrik Terras ütles, et Eestil on plaanid suu- ja sõrataudi leviku piiramiseks.
Regional and Agriculture Minister Hendrik Terras said that Estonia has plans to limit the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
Hendrik Terras said that prevention is the most important. If the disease reaches Estonia, we must be ready to respond quickly. All plans for this are ready.
Terras said that there are no plans to use the defense forces. Instead, agreements are in place with the police and the Defense League. It is true that roads must be closed because the disease spreads through people. For this, additional forces are needed.
All institutions that need to provide assistance have been informed. They are ready and their cooperation point has been determined.
If the disease reaches Estonia, we can deal with it. However, the economy will suffer because agricultural exports account for 11% of total exports.
Estonia has experience with the spread of African swine fever. Livestock farmers must strictly follow disinfection requirements.
