In Lüganuse Municipality, companies VKG and Kiviõli Keemiatööstus are expanding their industries. The state wants to establish two defense industrial parks. The area is planned for a nuclear power plant and VKG paetoodete factory.
A new Haljala-Kukruse road section will also pass through Lüganuse Municipality. Its plan will be published on Monday. Additionally, there is interest in establishing wind farms in the municipality. Mart Kivistik, chairman of the Lüganuse municipal council, says they have a lot of work with processing plans.
The municipality has favorable wind conditions and plenty of free land. This makes Lüganuse attractive to wind farm developers. Gregor Raudvere, board member of Varja Windfarm, says local people are relatively open to wind turbines.
The great interest from developers means the municipality has much work with processing applications. The municipality needs to create additional jobs to manage all the plans. Mart Kivistik notes that experts should better explain their presentations and be more prepared.
Lüganuse Municipality was created by the merger of Lüganuse, Sonda and Maidla municipalities and the towns of Püssi and Kiviõli. Nearly 8,000 people live in the municipality, most of them in Kiviõli town.
