October 2, 2018. The Health Insurance Fund (formerly health insurance fund) is once again in trouble. The previous leader advised people to find a new doctor with the help of bus traffic. This caused confusion. Now, seven years later, the leader does not seem to understand their responsibility better.
Michal referred in his social media post to a 2014 Postimees article where he advised the health insurance fund management to step down. He said the recommendation still applies.
The Health Insurance Fund is in deficit. Demographics and the growth in treatment needs are reasons that do not concern management. Michal emphasized that health issues are very personal to people. He said that hiding from the press does not help. The use of public funds must be public.
Michal added that everyone should be able to check whether the money is being used correctly. Currently, this does not seem to be the case.
The Health Insurance Fund leader is appointed by a six-member council. There are two state representatives, two insured individuals, and two employer representatives.
The Center Party demanded the resignation of Social Minister Karmen Joller on Wednesday. This was related to the Health Insurance Fund summer days.
The newspapers described that the summer days took place at Taagepera Castle. The cost of the event may have exceeded €100,000.
