Tallinn buys 30 new trolleys. In total, there will be 70 trolleys. The trolleys will go between Kopli and Mustamäe. Later, there are plans for routes to Haabersti and Lasnamäe.
Europe provides funding to help purchase the trolleys. 17 trolleys cost 12.1 million euros. New trolleys will arrive next year.
Initially, trolleys will replace buses on lines 81, 83, 84, and 85. These were formerly trolley lines 1, 3, 4, and 5. Both large and small trolleys will operate there.
Tallinn is considering new routes to Haabersti and Lasnamäe. In Lasnamäe, trolleys may run along Laagna tee.
The first new trolleys will operate on line 72. This is the old line 9 between Kopli and Mustamäe. The infrastructure for trolleys is already in place.
Later, trolleys may replace bus line 42. This bus is very popular. New infrastructure will be needed on Paldiski maantee and Laagna tee.
The first new Škoda trolleys will arrive in Tallinn in March next year. It will take 18 months to receive all new trolleys.
Last year, Tallinn stopped using old trolleys. They were too old and damaged. They could not survive the winter.
