In the summer of 2022, the statue of Heino Lipp was moved from Maidla to the Jõhvi sports stadium. The statue was ceremoniously unveiled on May 22. Sculptor Aivar Simson created a bronze statue depicting Heino Lipp pushing a shot put.
The statue belongs to the Heino Lipp Foundation NGO. Foundation member Ants Nurk said that the statue did not receive enough attention in Maidla. Therefore, it was decided to move the statue to the Heino Lipp-named stadium in Jõhvi. International athletics competitions are regularly held there.
Sculptor Aivar Simson supported the relocation of the statue. However, not everyone liked it. For example, politician Marja-Liisa Veiser was against moving the statue. She was the mayor of Lüganuse when the statue was erected in Maidla.
Funds for the erection of Heino Lipp's statue were raised through a public fundraiser and with the support of Lüganuse municipality. Since 2009, Heino Lipp shot put competitions have been held in Maidla Manor Park.
The Heino Lipp-named stadium in Jõhvi was opened on June 21, 2022, on the 100th anniversary of Heino Lipp's birth. It is the only athletics stadium in Estonia that has been named.
Heino Lipp was an Estonian athlete, coach, and sports official. He led the world decathlon rankings in 1948, but the Soviet Union did not allow him to go to the Olympics. He carried the Estonian flag at the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Heino Lipp died in 2006 at the age of 84.
