Saaremaa vald soovib 10 aastaga 1000 elanikku juurde saada
Saaremaa Municipality Aims to Attract 1,000 New Residents in 10 Years
Statistikaameti andmetel kasvatasid eelmisel aastal oma elanikkonda sisserände arvelt Hiiumaa ja Muhu vald, samas Saaremaa valla elanike arv vähenes. Et väiksematele saarvaldadele järele jõuda, töötab Saaremaa vallas nüüd Saaremaale elama asumise konsultant, kellel eesmärk on 10 aastaga 1000 elanikku Saaremaale juurde tuua.
According to Statistics Estonia, Hiiumaa and Muhu municipality increased their population last year due to immigration, while the population of Saaremaa municipality decreased. To catch up with smaller island municipalities, Saaremaa municipality now employs a consultant to help people settle on Saaremaa, with the goal of bringing 1,000 new residents to Saaremaa within 10 years.
The population of Muhu municipality has been growing for several years. People are returning, and new residents are arriving. Muhu mayor Raido Liitmäe says they have not deliberately done anything to attract people. The environment should attract them itself. Building permits show that houses are being constructed for year-round use, not as summer cottages.
The population of Hiiumaa increased by 20 people last year. Although the number of births is decreasing, more children are coming to childcare facilities. Families are moving in, both young and older people seeking peace and beautiful nature.
The population of Saaremaa decreased by 54 people last year. Now, a consultant is working in Saaremaa to help people settle on the island. In a couple of months, 9 people have been found who want to move to Saaremaa. Some long to return to their roots, others are looking for work.
Project consultant Kädi Alt says the goal is to bring in 1,000 people in 10 years. The leaders of the islands consider affordable ferry ticket prices important. The ferry connection is a highway extension and a lifeline for them.
