In an interview with Vikerraadio, Paavo Nõgene said that Estonia's energy policy has much unfinished work. He believes that the country can develop only if the economy grows. This should be Estonia's main goal.
Nõgene noted that over the past 20 years, no clear goals have been set in energy policy. He also talked about how working is a voluntary activity. People can choose where they work themselves.
During the interview, Nõgene was asked what he thinks of the Estonian government's plans to make radical changes. He replied that the word "radical" itself is radical. If changes are necessary, the government still has time to make them.
Nõgene recalled that Mart Laar's government also had a small majority in the Riigikogu, but significant changes were still made. In his opinion, radical changes are not being made now, but rather temporary measures are being taken.
He also spoke about the presidential elections. He finds it strange that a government with little support opposes a president supported by 70% of the population. Instead, they could focus on important issues like the economy and energy.
Nõgene believes that Estonia's biggest problem is energy policy. We import a lot of electricity, and this is dangerous. He would recommend making clear decisions in the energy sector.
He believes that Estonia must focus on economic growth. Only then can the country develop and people's lives improve. A stable economic environment will also help increase the number of families and children.
Finally, Nõgene spoke about work. In his opinion, working is a voluntary activity. People can choose where they work themselves. Employers have the right to choose dedicated employees.
