Webworm moths are small butterflies.
They build nests on trees. Their larvae live there.
There are several species in Estonia. For example, bird cherry and willow webworm moths.
They are white with black spots. They are very small.
They live for one year. In summer they fly. In autumn the larvae sleep. In spring the larvae eat leaves.
Sometimes there are many of them. Then they eat a lot of leaves. But the trees grow new leaves.
Webworm moths have been in Estonia for a long time. Before, people wanted to destroy them. Today they are not dangerous.
If there are too many of them, you can spray. You can also remove the nests.
Mostly there is no need to worry. The trees grow new leaves by themselves. By the end of summer, the nests disappear.
