Estonian soldiers are finishing their work in Iraq. They will return home in September. They participated in a US-led military operation. There were over 80 Estonians there.
The soldiers performed various tasks. Some days they were ready to respond quickly. On other days, they protected other people. They also attended meetings outside the base.
Iraq presents many different challenges. There is hot weather and chaotic traffic. The soldiers learned a lot of new things. They gained more experience.
Now the situation in Iraq is calmer. Therefore, the soldiers can go home. They will continue training in Estonia. Their main job is to defend Estonia.
Estonia will continue working in Baghdad. There is one Estonian officer there. Estonia is ready to participate in other operations as well. But it depends on the wishes of other countries.
Estonia wants to help its allies. International security is important for Estonia. If the allies need help, Estonia is ready to assist. But only if the other country wants it.
The Estonian soldiers have been working in Iraq since April 2023. They provided advice and assisted infantrymen.
