The term of Rainer Vakra as director general of the Environmental Board ends this year. The Government Office announced a competition to find a new leader. Vakra has been working as director general since 2022. His term is five years.
Vakra said he will focus on his work until December 31. He has not yet decided whether to run again. Applicants must submit documents by May 20 at the latest. Vakra must decide quickly.
Vakra was previously in politics. From 2005–2012, he was a member of the Center Party. From 2013–2021, he was in the Social Democratic Party. He does not plan to return to politics.
The competition for the new director general has requirements. The applicant must have a master's degree. They must have at least five years of management experience. They must be very proficient in English. Applicants must write an essay about their vision for the Environmental Board.
The new director general must improve the Environmental Board. They must ensure the department is prepared for crises. They must utilize new technologies and innovation.
