High school graduates had the opportunity to take state exams in Estonian, mathematics, and foreign languages. This year, 11,680 students took the exams. Compared to the previous year, the number of exam-takers has increased.
In recent years, exam results have been steadily increasing, approaching the level before the coronavirus period. This year, Estonian as a second language results and pass percentages were better. Results also improved in mathematics and the English language exam.
This year, there were 85 maximum results. Two students achieved the maximum result in both English and mathematics.
Although the results of state exams are rising, the results of basic school exams are currently lower. Particularly concerning is the difference in mathematics results between Russian-speaking and Estonian-speaking children.
Mathematics exams bring problems. In 135 schools, more than 30% of students did not exceed the mathematics exam threshold. Schools need to start analyzing the reasons.
The exam is reorganized for those who do not pass it the first time. Exam order was rarely violated this year, but there were more cases of cheating than in previous years.
