Prime Minister Kristen Michal said that Estonia will provide Ukraine with 11 million euros. This money will help Ukraine purchase air defense weapons and ammunition. NATO initiated this assistance project.
Supporting Ukraine is very important for Estonia and other Nordic and Baltic countries. These countries have provided Ukraine with over 42 billion euros. The Estonian government recently decided to provide 11 million euros.
Prime Minister Michal said that Estonia will support Ukraine for a long time. He stated that Ukraine can count on us to reach a just peace.
During the visit to Kyiv, the leaders also visited a thermal power plant. Russian attacks have damaged it. Michal said that Russia has not been able to subdue Ukrainians. Ukrainians continue to fight.
Estonia will help Ukraine endure the harsh winter and Russian attacks. Estonia has provided Ukraine with 2 million euros for energy support. In February, 600,000 euros were donated to help people without heating, electricity, and water.
Estonia has supported Ukraine's energy restoration efforts with nearly 3.3 million euros. This month, Estonia helped establish three mobile crisis centers in Kyiv. These centers will assist 360 city residents during power outages.
In addition, generators, fuel, and winter equipment are being purchased with Estonian funds. Eesti Energia provided Ukraine with generators worth approximately 200,000 euros.
The visit began with a memorial service at St. Sophia Cathedral. This was followed by a commemorative ceremony at Maidan Square. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other guests lit candles in memory of the war victims. A moment of silence was observed.
Estonia is leading today's leaders' meeting in Kyiv as part of the Nordic-Baltic cooperation. The leaders of eight countries are meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This will be followed by a joint press conference.
