Isamaa supports the candidacy of Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madis in the presidential elections. This was stated by the party's chairman, Urmas Reinsalu.
Just a few hours earlier, it became known that the Center Party supports the candidacy of Tiit Land.
Reinsalu mentioned that on Monday, the Isamaa faction had a serious discussion with Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madis. Madis left a positive impression. She stated that Isamaa rationally considered what Estonian society currently expects.
Together with defectors, Isamaa and the Center Party have a total of 19 MPs in the Riigikogu. Meelis Kiili, Leo Kunnas, and Kalev Stoicescu have signed their support for Land's candidacy.
If the president is not elected in the Riigikogu, the presidential electoral college will elect the president. If the electoral college fails to elect the president, the election returns to the Riigikogu.
Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madis officially announced on Monday morning that she is running for President of Estonia. She stated: "The president's constitutional duty is to preserve what makes Estonia Estonia."
Reinsalu thanked Reserve Major Riho Ühtegi, Maive Rute, and Indrek Laul. He said: "We met with Rector Land last week. I want to acknowledge the rectors who nominated Land's candidacy."
