Starting from July 2025, Estonia will issue new ID cards. These use a different chip platform. In Prisma, these cards may not yet work as customer cards.
Prisma announced that it is working on updating the software. This would allow the use of new ID cards. Prisma's IT manager Ruve Kreek said that the problem has not yet been resolved.
Currently, the development and testing of the software for new ID cards is underway. The plan is to implement this software by the end of November. Each new ID card requires additional software development and testing.
The development is taking place at Prisma's Finnish partner. This process is time-consuming and is taking longer than desired. Next week, even newer ID cards will become available. No problems are expected with these.
Customers are advised to let the cashier at Prisma manually enter their card data. This allows the use of bonuses and discounts.
Starting from November 17, the police will begin issuing ID cards with a completely new design. According to RIA, the use of the new card may be problematic in the first few days. The new ID card also requires software updates.
PPA signed contracts with new partners in 2024. From mid-November, documents will be produced by Finnish and Belgian companies. These contracts last eight years and cost a total of 54 million euros.
