Estonian medicine is struggling with a lack of funds. The Health Fund's budget is in deficit. This affects people's treatment. Waiting lists are getting longer, and shortages are impacting people's health. In such a situation, the Health Fund's summer days were held at Taagepera Castle. This event is held for a six-figure sum.
The chairman of the Center Party, Mihhail Kõlvart, said that this is not in proportion to the state of Estonian medicine and people's conditions. He also spoke about luxurious spending. This is not suitable in the current situation.
Several media outlets described the summer days at Taagepera Castle. A large complex was reserved for the event. The cost could have been over 100,000 euros. Social Minister Joller said that such spending offends people's sense of justice.
Kõlvart said that reacting after the fact is not enough. He asked how such a thing could have happened in the minister's area of responsibility. He also spoke about the impoverishment of the Estonian people and tax increases. Many companies are closing their doors, and food is being stolen from shops.
Kõlvart added that it is not appropriate to organize a luxurious party in such a situation. He spoke of moral responsibility and the Health Fund's council. He said that the interests of the state are not guaranteed.
Kõlvart said that the minister has not handled her duties well. He suggested that the issue should be discussed in the parliament after the summer recess. He said that the only adequate response would be if the minister resigned.
