Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur stated that the expansion of the Nursipalu training area is important for strengthening Estonia's defence capability. He emphasized that the development of national defence must be rapid and effective.
The Defence Minister thanked the local residents for their cooperation in national defence. People living near the training area will receive assistance to make their homes more noise-resistant.
The noise subsidy will first be granted to those living within two kilometres of the training area who receive a pension or benefit. Families with minor children will also receive the subsidy. Their subsidy share is 100 percent. The total amount of the subsidy is 500,000 euros.
According to Tambet Tõnisson, head of state assets, the priority is those who need help with window and door repairs. The subsidy conditions have been drawn up considering the needs of local people.
In the second category are all other people living within two kilometres of the training area. Their subsidy share is 90 percent. They pay 10 percent of the costs themselves.
In the third category are people living between two and four kilometres from the training area. Their subsidy share is 70 percent. They pay 30 percent of the costs themselves.
The applicant must live in the requested residence by January 2025. The maximum subsidy is 8,000 euros per person. The conditions of the subsidy will be discussed at meetings at the end of October.
