The Reform Party and Eesti 200 want to increase the single parent allowance. Currently, they receive 80 euros per month, but this will rise to 100 euros.
The increase in allowance will help families struggling to make ends meet. Single parents are most at risk of poverty. They raise children alone and therefore have higher expenses.
Why exactly 20 euros? This is a step to make the allowances better. For example, families with more children will receive more help. Now single parents will also get a bit more.
Will this really help reduce poverty? Time will show how it works. The allowance helps in daily life, but costs also rise. The exact impact is hard to predict.
Why not support only the poorest? Currently, it's not possible to do this precisely. All single parents receive the allowance because we don't have a system that would direct help exactly to those in need.
How many single parents receive the allowance? Last year, there were 6,745. Their families are raising a total of 8,819 children.
How much will this cost the state? The increase in allowance will cost about 600,000 euros more in 2026. In the future, this expense may grow.
Will the allowance be increased further? This will be decided in the future. It's important to help those who need it the most.
