The Minister of Energy and Environment, Andres Sutt, confirmed Rainer Vakra for a second term as Director General of the Environmental Board.
Sutt stated that Vakra has been an excellent leader. Under his leadership, the Environmental Board has carried out environmental protection efficiently and has focused more on clients.
The minister hopes that in the new term, Vakra will continue to be a strong partner for both individuals and businesses.
The government wants to change the environmental permit system. The goal is for companies to obtain necessary permits faster and more easily. Vakra's main task in his second term will be to help implement this reform.
Rainer Vakra has been the Director General of the Environmental Board since 2022. He has extensive experience in leadership, both in the public and private sectors.
Previously, he has served as the Chairman of the Board of Tallinn Soojus, the Mayor of the Nõmme district in Tallinn, and a member of the Riigikogu. He has also been the Chairman of the Riigikogu Environmental Committee.
Vakra holds a Master's degree in Communication from Tallinn University. He has also studied environmental management there.
Vakra's second term as Director General of the Environmental Board begins on January 1, 2027, and will last for five years.
