Lauri Läänemets said that Pevkur should resign. He has been a minister for a year and many problems have not been solved. If the State Audit Office had not noticed them, these problems would have remained unresolved or simply stalled.
Läänemets said that by resigning, Pevkur would give a new minister the opportunity to restore trust. The state spends a lot of money on national defense, and the entire defense sector is currently in trouble. Pevkur has become a person who undermines trust.
Isamaa chairman Urmas Reinsalu also said that Pevkur should resign. He wants to discuss this issue in the state budget committee with the minister. Reinsalu recalled that even the former head of RKIK had said that Pevkur was aware of all the decisions.
Prime Minister Kristen Michal convened a government cabinet meeting. He asked the State Auditor to review the accounting problems in the Ministry of Defense. Michal expects Pevkur, the commander of the defense forces, and other officials to present a concrete action plan.
The State Audit Office found many serious problems in the activities of the Ministry of Defense. These increase the risk of misuse of funds and property. The State Audit Office identified these problems already a year ago, and Pevkur promised to address them seriously.
