On Sunday at 12:10, a malfunction occurred with the M-32 vessel. The vessel with three crew members drifted into Russian waters. Within 15 minutes, the crew managed to return the vessel to Estonian waters.
The vessel was patrolling on the Narva River. Strong winds and the malfunction caused the vessel to drift toward Russia. The anchor did not help. The Border Guard sent assistance and notified Russia.
The crew attempted to repair the malfunction. They partially fixed the vessel and returned. Another vessel assisted them in reaching the harbor.
All crew members are safe. The vessel was in Russian waters up to 70 meters.
There are border issues on the Narva River. In 2024, Russia removed Estonian border markers. They claimed the markers were in their waters. Estonia did not retrieve the markers and will not reinstall them.
In December, three Russian border guards briefly entered Estonian territory near Vasknarva.
