President Alar Karis attended the papal funeral ceremony in the Vatican. He sat there next to U.S. President Donald Trump.
After the ceremony, Karis discussed the peace process in Ukraine with Trump. Karis asked Trump to continue the U.S. mediator role. Trump promised to do so.
Karis said that Trump could come to Estonia. Trump also invited Karis to Washington. Dates for the visits have not yet been set.
Karis also discussed transatlantic relations with Trump. Both agreed that these are very important.
In addition to Trump, Karis also spoke with other world leaders. For example, the King of Spain and the President of Portugal were there.
