President Alar Karis presented state decorations on Saturday at the Arvo Pärt Music House in Rakvere. These people have helped to improve life in Estonia.
In his speech, the President said that these people do not do their work for recognition. They want Estonia to be better and more supportive. They want children to receive a good education and help to be available for people. The President said: "Without your work, Estonia would be poorer and colder."
The President added that these people keep Estonia open and wiser. They love their roots and heritage.
Author Leelo Tungal thanked the other recipients of state decorations. She said that among them are doctors, artists, teachers, and scientists. None of them do their work for recognition, but recognition makes them happy.
The event also featured performances by musicians Vaiko Eplik, Priit Võigemast, and a string quintet. President Karis awarded a total of 203 people with state decorations.
