Last year, 10,173 children were born. This is 52 percent fewer than in 1991.
Fewer marriages are being performed. Last year, 5,998 couples got married, compared to 10,292 couples in 1991.
Wages have increased. In 1992, the average wage was 35 euros, last year it was 2,092 euros.
Fewer people work in agriculture. 35 years ago, 152,000 people worked there, now it's 19,700.
There are more companies now. In the 1990s, there were fewer than 24,000, now there are nearly 160,000.
