In Lääneranna, the Terve Vald election coalition won the elections. They secured seven seats in the 17-member council.
On Sunday, Terve Vald, Isamaa, EKRE, and Parempoolsed began coalition negotiations. They aim to agree on the future principles of Lääneranna municipality. They have a clear majority in the council with 12 mandates.
The negotiators presented initial proposals for the distribution of positions. Tarvi Sits (Isamaa) is the candidate for municipal mayor. Silvia Lotman (Terve Vald) is the candidate for council chairman. Meelis Malk (EKRE) is the candidate for council vice-chairman.
The finalization of agreements is planned for early November.
In recent years, the municipality has gained much attention for its school reform. There has been much debate about the school reform. All four coalition forces have been critical of the school reform.
The previously ruling Lääneranna Rahva election coalition secured only four seats in the council. The Tasakaalus Vald election coalition secured one seat.
The Lääneranna municipality was formed by the merger of two municipalities from Läänemaa and two from Pärnumaa. This occurred on October 24, 2017. The municipality became part of Pärnu County. As of January 1, 2025, 5087 people lived in Lääneranna. The municipality includes one town (Lihula), one borough (Virtsu), and 150 villages.
