At Thursday's session of the Narva City Council, the Center Party and the electoral alliance Plan B - Narva City Pulse demonstrated that they have enough votes to take power. They changed the agenda of the session and discussed the salary issue of council chairman Mihhail Stalnuhhin.
Stalnuhhin did not receive his requested salary increase. His salary was supposed to be 4000 euros, and deputy chairman Jana Kondrašova's salary 1500 euros. The opposition also submitted three no-confidence motions: against mayor Katri Raik, Stalnuhhin, and Kondraštšova.
Since the Center Party and Plan B have more votes, it is likely that Jaan Toots from the Center Party will become the new mayor. The council chairman is expected to be Urbo Vaarman from Plan B.
The exact timing of the new government's election is not yet known. The power transfer could take place on May 21, when the next council session is scheduled. Current council chairman Mihhail Stalnuhhin said he will not obstruct the power transfer but will not rush it either.
In March, Ivan Egorov, who belonged to the Respekt faction, announced he would join Plan B - Narva City Pulse. This meant that Katri Raik's electoral alliance Respekt lost its power. Now Plan B has 5 seats in the council and the Center Party has 11 seats. Together they have 16 votes, giving them power. The opposition has only 1 vote.
Until now, the ruling coalition in Narva was a cooperation between Katri Raik's electoral alliance Respekt and Mihhail Stalnuhhin's electoral alliance Narva 2.0. Now the situation is changing.
