There was a lot of rain in Estonia at the beginning of June. In many places, more rain has fallen than usual.
Tahkuse has received rain for almost two months. In half of the stations, it has rained for eight consecutive days. This was stated by Jana Põldnurk, an employee of the Environmental Agency.
On average, Estonia has received 52 millimeters of rain. Typically, 70 millimeters fall in June. The rain has been unevenly distributed.
Tahkuse, Heltermaa, and Ristna stations have received more rain than usual. The most rain fell on June 9. Tahkuse received 58 millimeters, Laadi 50 mm, and Heltermaa 44 mm.
The rain raised river water levels. Floods are not expected. In some places, the water level is falling, while in others it is rising.
The highest water level was on June 12-14. The Mustjõgi river had a water level of 341 cm. The Tänassilma river's water level is almost record-high.
In Pärnu County, the water level has risen. The Halliste river has its highest water level in 15 years. In Soomaa, the "fifth season" may come. This usually happens in spring.
At the Laadi station, the water level exceeded the record by 15 cm. The rain may continue, so the water level will remain high.
The most rain has fallen in Western Estonia and the islands. However, Southeastern Estonia is the wettest. The ground has been wet there since May.
Many farmers are worried. Strawberries are not ripening on time. Potatoes may suffer from rot.
The most rain fell in June 1998. Then, an average of 124 mm fell.
