Reform Party Secretary General Kristo Enn Vaga said on the radio that the government can continue its work. Although they now have 50 votes, it is not a problem. They will talk more with other parties.
Vaga recalled that in 2009, Estonia had a minority government. That government did good work. They introduced the euro in Estonia and passed large budgets. A minority government simply means more talking.
Currently, many MPs are without a party. They say they will vote for good things. This means the government must discuss more.
Vaga said other parties do not want to form a new government. The Reform Party will continue working. They are dealing with security and the economy.
The budget is very important. The government must compromise with other parties. There is also the urgent matter of presidential elections.
When asked if the Reform Party buys votes, Vaga said they do not. All parties want to improve the budget.
The Reform Party wants to reduce the budget deficit. They aim to meet the Maastricht criteria by 2029.
Vaga disagrees that a minority government is expensive. He said the EKRE-IKE government was expensive. We are still paying for it now.
More money is now going to national defense. Vaga said this is necessary. Reform Party governments have never been expensive.
Vaga believes some MPs switched parties for personal reasons. He said this is unfortunate. People should think about Estonia.
Two MPs have continued to support Ülle Madis. Other MPs may also support her. Vaga believes Madis has a good chance of becoming president.
Madis is a strong candidate. She knows how to lead the country. Land is also good, but Madis has more experience.
Vaga is waiting to see what other parties say. Presidential candidates will be presented on August 21. The first round of elections is on September 2.
