The Narva River flows from Lake Peipus to Narva-Jõesuu. It spans 70 kilometers of water.
Although the weather is hot, swimming there is not allowed. Border guards ensure that no one swims.
The Border Guard wants more swimming spots. However, local governments are not creating them.
The only official swimming spot is Joaoru Beach in Narva. But locals do not like this spot.
Another swimming spot is at the mouth of the Narva River. This spot is semi-official. The water there is warm.
People visit there constantly. They swim, but only at their own risk.
This summer, the Border Guard recorded 30 violations of the swimming ban. The highest fine was 600 euros.
