Tallinn Culture Cauldron will cover the large painting in the Sea Culture Center with fabric.
The painting is Stalinist and depicts Soviet military forces. Many people find it unpleasant.
A representative of Culture Cauldron says the space must be open to everyone. Therefore, the symbols are being concealed.
Permission from heritage conservation has been obtained. The painting will not be destroyed but temporarily hidden.
Tenants did not want to use the spaces because the symbols were too strong. Now the spaces will get a new look.
The large painting will remain but will be covered with fabric. Also, the pentagonal stucco decor will be covered.
The building remains under heritage protection. Stalinist architecture will still be visible, though the symbols are hidden.
Estonia Theatre's large painting is not planned to be covered in the same way. It has a different significance in cultural history.
Work at the Sea Culture Center will be done in July. After that, the spaces will be ready for new events.
