Kristi Helme is the new editor-in-chief of Õpetajate Leht. She will start work on August 10. Helme wants the newspaper to be more for teachers. She wants to make Õpetajate Leht a place where education is discussed.
Helme plans to talk more about higher education, vocational education, and hobby education. She also wants to write about education outside of Tallinn. In addition, she wants the newspaper to be read more online.
Currently, Kristi Helme works as a culture editor at LP and Eesti Päevaleht. From 2018 to 2020, she was the head of the culture department at Eesti Päevaleht. Before that, she worked at the Delfi portal and at Õpetajate Leht from 2007 to 2012.
Kristi Helme has studied education and communication at Tallinn University. She graduated with a degree in education and studied communication in her master's program.
The selection committee for the editor-in-chief included Ragne Kõuts-Klemm, Martin Saar, Urmo Uiboleht, Elo Eesmäe, Raino Liblik, Eda-Mai Tammiste, and Toomas Väljataga. A total of four people applied for the editor-in-chief position. Kristi Helme was elected editor-in-chief in a secret ballot.
The previous editor-in-chief, Heiki Raudla, led Õpetajate Leht since 2015.
