Local governments determined the number of electoral districts by August 11 and distributed mandates based on population register data.
Now, the number of council members has decreased in seven municipalities: Narva-Jõesuu, Mustvee, Viru-Nigula, Väike-Maarja, Lääneranna, Elva, and Põhja-Sakala.
17 mandates decreased because Toila and Jõhvi municipalities merged. After the elections, a new Jõhvi municipality will be formed, which will have 21 mandates.
The number of council members will increase by two seats in Jõelähtme and Kose municipalities.
In the autumn elections, there will be one electoral district in each municipality, except for Tallinn. In Tallinn, there are eight districts for each city district. The number of mandates will decrease in Lasnamäe and increase in Kesklinna and Nõmme.
Candidate registration begins on August 20 and lasts until September 9. Documents can be submitted to the electoral commission or electronically.
The local elections will take place from October 13 to 19.
