Parvel Pruunsild and Priit Humal want money from the Estonian state. They say the state has violated their rights. According to them, the state misused their personal data.
The court has already postponed the decision on this case eight times. Last time, the decision was left undone on Wednesday. The court says the file is very thick and the case is legally complex. The judge also has a lot of other work.
The court says this delay is likely the last one. In the summer, they believed they could work faster, but they didn't manage to.
The case is related to Estonian and European Union laws. The issue concerns personal privacy and data usage. This is a complex topic today.
The file is over 5,000 pages thick. Additionally, there are many EU court decisions and laws included. The judge also has three other complex cases to handle at the same time.
The court says resolving complex cases takes time. Other decisions also need to be made quickly. The new deadline for making the decision is October 29.
Pruunsild and Humal say Telia provided their data to the prosecutor's office. They say this was against the law. The Supreme Court already stated five years ago that such use of data is wrong.
According to them, the state knew it was wrong but did nothing. They want financial compensation from the state.
The state does not agree with their claims. The state says the law does not require them to pay compensation.
Pruunsild has also filed a lawsuit against Telia. He wants Telia to stop providing data to the police. He also wants one million euros in compensation.
In 2023, the police suspected Humal and Pruunsild. They said the men broke the law. But the court found the men innocent. The prosecutor's office did not appeal the decision.
